Luring Retail to Salt Lake's West Side
None by KCPW
(KCPW News) West Side residents and Salt Lake City economic officials see eye to eye on one thing: they need more retail. From ice cream shops to copy centers, the stretch of city west of I-15 is lacking, and city economic advisor Alison McFarlane says something needs to be done. Her team has developed a guide complete with aerial maps, lists of available parcels and little-known information about the West side in hopes of attracting more retail developers and real-estate agents.McFarlane says many developers are simply unaware of what's available or attractive beyond the city's usual downtown, Sugarhouse and Avenues locales. McFarlane's team is currently working on a major shopping center deal at the corner of Redwood Road and North Temple, likely to include a large Hispanic supermarket. Another target is developing small neighborhood retail nodes along Redwood Road between 21st South and 26th North. The city's West Side Development guide is available on the city's website at www.slcgov.com.
