Ivory Homes, School Trust Lands Administration Partner

(KCPW News) Utah school children stand to reap tens of millions of dollars from a new housing development in St. George. Builder Ivory Homes will break ground Tuesday on 360 acres of publicly owned land managed by the School Trust Lands Administration.

"We put up the land, they'll put up the construction and the lands will be sold to individual homebuyers," explains Trust Lands Administration spokesman Dave Hebertson.

He says the property is far more valuable once developed - so a partnership with Ivory Homes should yield quite a bit more money for the Permanent State School Fund. Ivory Homes is planning a community of more than one thousand homes on Brigham Road. Hebertson says the deal includes a trail system and open space.

The Trust Lands Administration owns nearly 80,000 acres in Washington County, which it is working to develop in line with the newly formed land management plan for the area. Proceeds from public land sales and mining leases benefit Utah's schools and 11 other public institutions.
