Council Say NO to Sandy Stadium

(KCPW News) Plans for a pro-soccer stadium in Sandy are dead, after the Salt Lake County Council voted today five to four against the proposal. Sandy City and Real Salt Lake officials are reeling at the surprise decision. KCPW's Julie Rose breaks down the action:
The Salt Lake County Council dashed Real Salt Lake's dreams of pro-soccer stadium in Sandy this morning. In a 5 to 4 vote, councilmembers agreed that putting $35 million of public money into the stadium is not in the taxpayers' best interest. Sandy Mayor Tom Dolan called the stadium deal "dead," but says he will take his fight to the legislature and push for cities to keep a larger share of the taxes they generate.
Dolan accuses the council of being too focused on Salt Lake City and calls the vote "anti-Sandy." Salt Lake City Mayor Rocky Anderson now hopes Real will take a more serious look at his plan to build the stadium for less money on state-owned land at the fairpark.
Real Salt Lake Soccer CEO Dean Howes says he's not sure of his next move, but the team is keeping all options open. That could mean pulling the team from Utah.
