County Puts Restrictions on Open Space Bond

None by KCPW

(KCPW News) A $48 million bond for open space in Salt Lake County comes with a few strings attached.

The County Council has decided to restrict the money - pending voter approval - to land acquisition and preservation, only. Extras like trailheads and playgrounds will have to be paid for by cities, community groups or other county agencies partnering in the effort.

The County Mayor's office expressed concern that without using the bond money for improvements, voters will be left with unusable plots of land. County Councilman Joe Hatch says it will simply require the county to use its resources creatively. If approved, the open space bond will result in an average tax increase of $9 a year for property owners.
