Legion Brings Cash, Too

(KCPW News) The American Legion Convention didn't just bring national attention and a Presidential visit to Utah. It also contributed an estimated 10-million dollars to the local economy in the form of hotel, restaurant and retail spending.Scott Beck of the Salt Lake Convention and Visitor's Bureau notes that events like the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and next year's Rotary Convention have a larger statewide impact because attendees tend to be older, with more time and money to spend vacationing.
Often they extend their visit to squeeze in a trip to Utah's national parks and other attractions. This year the shuttle bus company serving the American Legion convention also used buses from several of Utah's national parks to transport attendees. Beck says the moving advertisements for attractions like Bryce Canyon spurred further tourist interest among visitors.
