Religious Leaders Discuss Birds and Bees and God

(KCPW News) Embracing sex education from cradle to grave is the goal of a panel discussion this evening called "Sex Positive Theology."

According to Glen Brown, instructor of the sex ed program Our Whole Lives at Holladay United Church of Christ,"Sex Positive Theology essentially asserts that sexuality is a good God-given gift to people, and that the purposes of sexuality are to enhance human wholeness and fulfillment; to express love, commitment, delight and pleasure; to bring new life into the world; and to give glory to God. It asserts that our bodies are good, not dirty," Brown says.

Brown is one of three religious leaders who will take part in tonight's conversation on religion and the role it plays in one's view of the body and sex. A sex positive theology is biblically grounded, says Brown, a sentiment shared by fellow panelist Tracee Rosen, Rabbi of Congregation Kol Ami:

"Judaism has always asserted that there is no distinction between body and soul and therefore that sexuality is an important and sacred part of living."

Free and open to the public, the Sex Positive Theology panel discussion begins at 7 p.m. this evening at the University of Utah Union Theater.
