Early Voting Underway

None by KCPW

(KCPW News) Utahns can now begin casting their ballots - even though Election Day is technically still two weeks out. Early voting is underway at locations around the state, including six in Salt Lake County. KCPW's Julie Rose reports:

Clerk Sherrie Swensen says the average ballot will take about 10 minutes to complete.

"It is a long ballot and a new process and people can go back and review what they've done . . . so it will take longer," says Swensen.

And with fewer machines than for previous general elections, Swensen says long lines are likely on November 7th. Swensen hopes for a 15 percent turnout at early voting sites to ease the burden on Election Day. Voters can cast a ballot at any of the sites in their county, regardless of precinct. For Chris Scardelletti, the convenience and flexible hours are a plus:

"I usually vote first thing the morning, but don't really like the hustle and bustle of the polling site, so this is a good way to vote on my own time," says Scardelletti.

A list of early voting locations and hours is online at www.elections.utah.gov or by calling the County Clerk's office.
