Health Care Task Force Fizzles

(KCPW News 11-13-06) A legislative task force that began in controversy, ends in controversy. And some on the committee believe they have little to show for their efforts. KCPW's Julie Rose reports on the final meeting of the Privately Owned Health Care Task Force.
A fifteen-member committee tasked with studying Utah's health care system finished its work yesterday without making a single recommendation to the State Legislature.
The Privately Owned Health Care Task Force failed to reach any consensus about changes that could make the system more fair and more affordable for consumers. It's one one outcome was a 300-thousand dollar report that suggests Utah's health care system is working well and should not be tinkered with by lawmakers. That report was welcomed by industry giant Intermountain Healthcare, but hotly contested by its competitors.
Task force chair Senator Michael Waddoups says it will be up to individual members of the task force to sponsor the legislation they think makes sense, without any endorsement from the committee.
