(KCPW News) Mayors up and down the Wasatch Front have signed on to a transportation growth plan that focuses on preserving corridors long before roads need to be built. West Valley City Mayor Dennis Nordfelt says so the plan called "Wasatch Choices 2040" could have prevented some of today's transportation headaches, like the need to buy land for the proposed Mountain View Corridor."Now the purchase of the corridor is going to involve purchasing homes and commercial establishments - already developed property," says Mayor Nordfelt. "It would have been much more effective to identify the corridor 40 years ago and have it preserved."
Both the Wasatch Front Regional Council - which represents Davis, Weber and Salt Lake Counties - and the Mountainland Association of Governments in Utah County have agreed to Wasatch Choices 2040 for future development. It amounts to the first-ever regional land-use and transportation plan in the state.
