Governor Supports Keeping Commission
(KCPW News) The Utah Commission on Aging is slated to sunset next summer. The commission's executive director, Maureen Henry, says an impending Baby Boomer tidal wave makes renewing the commission important."The number of people hitting 65 each year goes up quite dramatically for now until into the 2020s."
Currently, there are over 200,000 Utahns Over age 65. By 2030 that number will swell to nearly half a million seniors. The Utah Commission on Aging needs lawmaker approval for another two-year stint. Honorary Chair, Norma Matheson, says at least one power player gets it:
"Fortunately the governor doesn't need to be convinced. He has seen the value of the work."
The commission will lobby the Utah Legislature during their next session, which begins in January. You can learn more about the Utah Commission on Aging by visiting their website.
