All I Want for Christmas Is an Engineer

None by KCPW

(KCPW News) Many technology firms in Utah hope Santa puts a qualified engineer under the tree this Christmas. Utah - like much of the country - has a shortage of engineering talent, says Michael Sullivan of the Governor's Office of Economic Development:

"Utah is probably 300-500 jobs short," says Sullivan. "Aerospace engineers at companies like ATK and L3 to small civil engineering companies. These are high-paid, experienced positions we're looking to fill."

State officials hope to lure engineers to Utah through a series of advertisements during the coming weeks. The theory is that visitors will be enticed to consider a venue change after enjoying Utah's ski slopes and other attractions. Sullivan says the ad campaign will run in papers statewide through the New Year. The Governor's Office of Economic Development has set up a hotline and email address to collect engineering resumes it will then distribute to business in need of talent. That address is resumes@utah.gov.
