Sandy City Planner Takes Over SLC Department

None by KCPW

(KCPW News) Sandy City's planning director hopes his experience creating a bustling downtown for the Salt Lake suburb will translate to his new job as the Capital City's top planner.

Mayor Rocky Anderson has chosen long-time Sandy planner George Shaw to head the city's planning department - including efforts to guide the massive City Creek Center being built by the LDS Church.

Sandy was one of the first cities in Utah to embrace mixed-use zoning, and Shaw says he'll remain a proponent of combining residential and business activity in Salt Lake City. He also says he shares Mayor Rocky Anderson's commitment to energy and sustainability initiatives.
