Law Would Allow Anonymous Reports of Dangerous Drivers

None by KCPW

(KCPW News) We all know someone who makes us nervous when they drive. But when that driver becomes a real threat on the roads, few people are willing to report their concern to the Driver License Division for fear of hurting feelings.

Currently, if a family member of friend suffers a stroke or some impairment that you believe makes them dangerous on the road, the Driver License Division will tell them you tattled.

State Senator Allen Christensen believes Utah roads would be safer if people could report dangerous drivers anonymously.

Christensen is proposing a law change that would preserve that anonymity. Originally he considered shortening the license renewal cycle to every two years, but received too many complaints. The proposed measure would also make it a Class C misdemeanor to harass people by reporting false concerns to the Driver License Division.
