Utah's Employment Rate Slowing

Economy Still In a Boom

(KCPW News) Utah's employment growth rate has shown some slowing over the past six months despite an increase of four and half percent in January.

Mark Knold, chief economist for the Department of Workforce Services, says that slowing is the result of a shrinking pool of available workers and not a decrease in demand for Utah's goods and services.

Knold says population growth is the main reason for the state's strong economy. He says it's possible the population could grow faster than the economy could sustain, but history shows Utah's economy generally supports its growing population.
