Renewable Energy Could Mean Extra Cash For Utah Farmers
None by Eric Ray
(KCPW News) Governor Jon Huntsman Junior wants the State Legislature to pay for research into the use of renewable energy sources on Utah's farms and ranches.A spokesperson for the Utah Department of Agriculture says renewable energy sites could be a possible second source of income for farmers. That's why they are looking into the viability of experimental wind and solar farms. According to Utah Clean Energy, a farmer can earn two to four thousand dollars per year for each megawatt produced by a wind turbine.
State officials say there are 23 experimental renewable energy sites in use across the state. Interested parties can attend next week's Intermountain Harvesting Energy Summit at the Utah State Fairpark. Information is available online at www.harvestenergy.org.
