City Council To Discuss Non Discrimination Ordinance
None by Eric Ray
(KCPW News) If you are applying for a job with Salt Lake City, it is at least possible that you could be denied the position based solely on your sexual orientation. When he took office, Salt Lake City Mayor Rocky Anderson issued an executive order banning discrimination of any sort when it comes to city employment. However, Salt Lake City Councilwoman Nancy Saxton says the executive order won't hold up in court and she wants to turn Anderson's order into a city ordinance.
In 1998, the City Council overturned Salt Lake City's non-discrimination ordinance that included sexual orientation. Saxton's goal is to make sure that kind of discrimination doesn't happen. The City Council is scheduled to discuss Saxton's proposal during tonight's meeting.
