Antique Shop Owners Upset Over HB 402

None by Eric Ray

(KCPW News) Owners of small antique and consignment shops are upset over a measure passed by the Legislature that would require them to report property purchased for re-sale and document information from the sellers.

Mary Corporon, an attorney and owner of Moriarty's Antique, says if the bill is signed by Governor John Huntsman Junior, many business owners will need to purchase computers and other equipment in order to comply. Corporon says these costs could drive many owners out of business.

Prior to passing the bill, Corporon says no member of the House or Senate contacted owners of these shops to discuss what a change would mean for their businesses. Governor Huntsman has until next week to sign or veto the bill.

I beleive it would be in the best interest of the state if the bill was passed, making a more uniform control over dishonest Antique dealers.
