Citizens Rally to Oppose Mountain View Corridor
None by KCPW
(KCPW News) The Mountain View Corridor is under fire from environmentalists and residents in Utah County. Citizens Organized for Smarter Transportation - or COST - is rallying tonight in Lehi to showcase transit alternatives to the highway.State transportation officials have proposed several routes extending the Mountain View Corridor along the west side of Salt Lake County and down into Lehi, American Fork and Saratoga Springs. COST organizer Dave Klock says none of the options are acceptable because they will increase noise, pollution and health risks, require homes to be demolished and decrease property values.
Klock's group has hired a smart-growth consultant to propose transit alternatives to the freeway. It's the same consultant another citizens' group hired to hatch a compromise on Legacy Parkway two years ago. Tonight's rally is at 7:30 at the Lehi Legacy Center.

Lehi's alternate plan for the corridor connector is less destructive to children, old people, wildlife and the environment. Mass transit would be even better! Our legislature is saying that people have cars and that they are going to drive them,so we have to build more freeways. This shortsighted thinking will destroy Utah. Putting the connector on 2100 N. in Lehi will destroy Lehi.
