New Sex Business Rules Working in Park City

None by KCPW

(KCPW News) Strict new laws on sexually-oriented business in Park City seem to be working. The local police department reports not a single new application for an escort service since the Park City Council enacted licensing requirements that mirror those in Salt Lake City.

The changes came after Park City saw an increase in prostitution and discovered its lax laws made a haven for sex businesses. Park City Police Lieutenant Rick Ryan says escort services find the new rules too burdensome and costly. They are required to have a physical office open at all times and thorough records of customers and employees that police can inspect on request.

All employees of an escort service, including secretaries and drivers have to be licensed, too. With fewer licensed sex businesses in Park City, Ryan says prostitution is down, as well as related drug and violent crimes.
