New Education Deans in SLC

None by KCPW

(KCPW News) Both Westminster College and the University of Utah have hired new education deans to inherit what many call a crisis of teacher shortages in public schools. The U of U's new dean, Michael Hardman says low teacher salaries and inefficient degree programs at the university are partly responsible for the shortage.

Substantial money from the Utah Legislature will help the salary issue. Hardman says he'll focus on making it possible for students to get a teaching degree in four years rather than the typical five or six. Westminster's new Education Dean is Robert Shaw, who comes from administrative positions at Brown University. Both Shaw and Harman take office in July.
