State Regulators Say Company Must Start Over Next Time
(KCPW News) EnergySolutions has made good on its promise to drop plans for a waste "supercell" at its disposal site in Tooele County. But the company included several caveats in a letter to the Utah Division of Radiation that may suggest it hopes to pick up where it left off with the "supercell" license after Governor Huntsman leaves office.State regulators say that's not an option and sent a letter to EnergySolutions making that clear.
"We went the added step of making sure they understand that if they were ever to want to reapply in any case, it would be a new license amendment request," says Dane Finerfrock, director of the Radiation Control Division.
The letter from EnergySolutions requested the state "preserve the technical and public review" completed for their supercell application. Finerfrock says saving the files is standard procedure, but the company will still have to start from scratch next time.
A spokesman for Governor Huntsman says he's satisfied that EnergySolutions has upheld its end of the commitment reached last week. However, Huntsman also says he can't guarantee a future governor will be as strict in limiting the company's waste disposal plans.

Isn't there any way we can get legislation passed that will prohibit future escalation of the Energy Solutions plans for supercell or anything in that same realm?
