Local Doctors Cry Out Against Air Pollution

Say Changes Need To Be Made Immediately
A group of local doctors calling themselves Utah Physicians for a Healthy Environment called for greater prevention of air pollution today. The group says if changes aren't made now, air pollution will become a full-blown public health catastrophe in the next 20 years.UPHE made a list of recommendations to help solve the problem. Among them, placing a moratorium on new coal-fired power plants, reducing the speed limit to 55 miles per hour when air pollution exceeds existing EPA limits for ozone and PM 2.5, planning major expansions of mass transit and making it free to the public, and encouraging school districts to use alternative fuel buses.
Members of UPHE met with Governor Jon Huntsman Junior and members of the Department of Environmental Quality last week to express their concerns and are now releasing their air pollution prescription to the public.
