"Gas Gouging?" Huntsman Joins Other Govs Calling for Scrutiny of Big Oil

(KCPW News) Big oil companies say today's high gas prices are a simple result of supply and demand. Governor Jon Huntsman doubts that claim and is joining several dozen other governors in asking Congress look into possible price gouging:You've got to certainly conclude logically that we have a whole lot of oil assets and oil operations, E&P refining and all the downstream products in the hands of too few people," says Huntsman.
The U.S. House of Representatives this week passed legislation authorizing the Federal Trade Commission to investigate and punish gasoline price gouging. Last summer Huntsman called for an investigation into Utah's gas prices which were higher than the national average. Prices across the country now hover above three dollars, so Huntsman says it's up to Congress to determine if oil companies are being anti-competitive.
