Water Tension in SLC

None by KCPW

(KCPW News) Two Utah County men who make a living buying and selling water rights to developers have launched an attack against Salt Lake City. Evan Johnson believes that Salt Lake City is hoarding water it will never use, and he says that's driving up water rates and new home prices. Johnson is recruiting state legislators, mayors and even the Utah County commission in a letter writing campaign to state officials, hoping to have Salt Lake City's water policies evaluated. KCPW's Julie Rose spoke with Evan Johnson:

Evan Johnson buys and sells water rights for a profit. At his urging, several Utah County state legislators, the Utah County Commission and mayors of multiple Utah County municipalities have sent letters to the State Water Engineer and Division of Natural Resources asking for a review of Salt Lake City's water policies.

I think Mr. Johnson should get a real job and stop being a pain to those who work for a living

it is really scary when a respected news source like KCPW presents the rantings of an individual like Mr. Evans as fact. for an someone who makes a living by increasing the commodification of a basic human resource like water to accuse a City of hoarding water is irresposible

3. Emord Nilap said:

SLC utilities are behaving like thugs. They use water to enforce some bizarre agenda and abuse landowners. I applaud Mr. Johnson for his bravery in standing up for equal protection against an underhanded character like Niermeyer.
