Rocky Threatens To Run For Third Term

Political Expert Gives Possible Reasons Why
(KCPW News) Salt Lake City Mayor Rocky Anderson is intimating he may seek a third term, particularly if he doesn't approve of the candidates that emerge from the primary election.Last year, Anderson said he wouldn't run for Mayor again. Kirk Jowers, Director of the Hinckley Institute of Politics, says there are five possible reasons for Anderson's about-face. Jowers says Anderson wants to remain relevant and mitigate his lame duck status; he wants to influence the election by having candidates take positions consistent with his; he may feel he is the only person for the job; his job prospects may not be panning out so he's getting desperate; and he just loves the media attention the story attracts.
Jowers says if Anderson enters the race he would be the favorite. However, should Anderson wait until after the primary to throw his name into the non-partisan mayoral election, it's possible he would split votes with another Democratic candidate and hand the election to a Republican.

Threatens? Who (besides the other candidates) feels threatened? Ok, maybe I do a little. But, only because if Rocky goes another round as mayor, it will be that much longer before he can fully concentrate on a national message about our environment. I'd still vote for him, though.

I disagree. I think he would have a louder voice as mayor for enviromental issues than outside the public office. I hope, if he runs, that it is one of his platforms. SL has great opportunity to show enviromental policies in effect, and grow from that change in local policy.
