Party Politics and the SLC Mayor's Race

Why Party Membership Matters in the Nonpartisan Race

(KCPW News) A leading candidate for Salt Lake City mayor caused a stir last week when he dumped his life-long ties with the Republican Party in hopes of gaining an edge among the city's liberal electorate. Now, the Salt Lake City Mayor's race is nonpartisan - technically. So why does it matter what party a candidate belongs to? And further more, should it? KCPW's Julie Rose tackles the issue of party politics in the nonpartisan mayor's race.

There are four candidates who have filed for mayor and were not mentioned in this story. They are JP Hughes, Rainer Huck, John Renteria and Robert Muscheck.
