Midday Utah begins after the 9 a.m. news
While 83 percent of the nation's school districts indicate that they are on track to be in full compliance with the No Child Left Behind Act's "highly qualified" teacher requirements, more than half of states and two-thirds of school districts report that the requirements have had little impact on student achievement. That's according to a new study from the Washington, D.C.-based Center on Education Policy. Here to discuss the details is Jack Jennings, President and CEO of the Center on Education Policy.
If states don't comply with the so-called REAL ID federal law by next May, you may have to use your passport to get into national parks or board a plane. The law requires states to combine driver's licenses and state ID cards into a national identification system. Seventeen states have passed laws rejecting Real ID and many more, including Utah, have taken steps to stop it. Karen McCreary, Executive Director of the ACLU of Utah, is here to discuss why the ACLU calls REAL ID a real nightmare.
