Governor Leads Trade Mission to India

(KCPW News) India is the next frontier for Governor Jon Huntsman's economic development efforts. On October 26th, he will lead a group of export-oriented Utah companies on a trade mission to Mumbai and New Delhi. Previous trade missions to China, Mexico and Canada have resulted in business deals for participating Utah companies.Governor's Trade and Diplomacy Director Franz Kolb says India is not ideal for beginning exporters, so Utah companies that already have international success will find the trade mission more beneficial. India has become known for its highly-educated, inexpensive workforce, but Kolb says the Governor's trade mission will not offer outsourcing opportunities for Utah companies. Rather, Kolb says the trip will have a new educational spin.
All of Utah's major universities and community colleges have signed on for the mission, says Kolb. They are hoping to establish student and faculty exchange programs, as well as tap potential markets for technologies developed at Utah universities.
The Governor's trade mission to India will run from October 26th through November 2nd, and Kolb says there are still slots available for Utah businesses, education officials and government leaders. India is currently Utah's 25th largest trading partner.
