Hatch Condemns President's Veto of CHIP
None by KCPW
(KCPW News) President Bush has vetoed a compromise bill to extend health insurance to four million additional low-income children. Bush aides say the 35-billion dollar price tag is too high. Utah Senator Orrin Hatch condemned the veto, calling the CHIP program the quote "morally right thing to do.""For 10 years, CHIP has worked remarkably well in helping children who otherwise would not get the medicine and doctor visits they need to grow up strong," says Hatch. "I know that the President wants to provide health care for low-income children, as he did with CHIP when he was governor in Texas. I regret that this has become a political battle."
Utah advocates are calling the offices of Representatives Chris Cannon and Rob Bishop asking them to change their votes and support the veto override.
