East Side City Council Candidate Supports Police Bond, Skybridge

None by KCPW

(KCPW News) Attorney Roger McConkie is vying to represent City Council District Six in a seat vacated by mayoral candidate Dave Buhler. He promises to encourage more consensus on the seven-member counsel. And he says his first priority will be supporting a new police headquarters and precinct on the city's east side:

"If there were an earthquake and we don't have a precinct East of the fault line, what is the first response?" says McConkie. "It would be very difficult for police to respond and that's a crucial reason why I think we need a precinct on the East side."

In addition to the 192-million dollar public bond for a public safety building in Salt Lake City, McConkie also supports building a skybridge over Main Street. He also supports preserving the Wasatch Hollow Gully as open space.

Tune in this morning at 10 for a conversation with District Six candidate J.T. Martin on KCPW's Midday Metro.

If we had a earthquake, Mr McConkie thinks we should have a police precinct on the East Side. I agree, but better yet how about an inclusive Salt Lake City Emergency plan to address any catastrophe and coordinate with other agencies. Andy Gallegos
