Hart Says Democrats Have Lost Their Way

None by Eric Ray

(KCPW News) Former presidential candidate Gary Hart says the Democratic Party can regain its lost identity by returning to the principles of the party's highly regarded Presidents of the past.

Hart says the party lost its way in the 1990's when it avoided the extremes of left and right and tried to find the middle ground. He adds party lines were further blurred when, in 2002, many Democratic leaders voted in favor of the Iraq War resolution.

Hart adds Democrats should stand for America as a national community, international security, citizen participation and civic duty, and equality and justice.

Hart will be reading from "The Courage of Our Convictions: A Manifesto for Democrats" Saturday at noon at the Sundance Tree Room. Ticket information is at (801) 223-4567 and online at www.sundanceresort.com. KCPW's conversation with Hart can be heard here.
