(KCPW News) A two-billion dollar expansion of I-15 in Utah County is underway. State transportation officials say they expect a record of decision next summer, which clears the way for engineering and construction to begin in 2010. UDOT Deputy Director Carlos Braceras says the project will take five or six years to complete."We're convinced we can do the reconstruction and maintain three lanes of traffic in each direction at all times," says Braceras.
Braceras says the plan will add two lanes in each direction along a 43 mile stretch of I-15 from Draper to Payson. UDOT estimates 125-thousand cars travel that stretch of road each day and congestion is worsening.
