County to Construct Criminal Justice Master Plan

None by Eric Ray

(KCPW News) Recent calls from Salt Lake County District Attorney Lohra Miller for funding to hire more attorneys, and from law enforcement to increase jail space and treatment options, has county government officials wanting to study the criminal justice system as a whole.

Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon says the county will begin putting together a Criminal Justice Master Plan in early 2008. He says the study will take nearly a year to complete. It should provide answers to several questions, including staffing at the DA's office; the amount of jail beds needed in the county; how many new police officers are needed; and how much funding should go toward treatment options.
