Thousands Attend Rally, March in Liberty Park

Ed Firmage at the Liberty Walk

(KCPW News) Building on the momentum of early April's Dignity March in downtown Salt Lake City, thousands of Latinos and their supporters gathered Monday night at Liberty Park to urge compassionate and comphrehensive immigration reform. KCPW's Lara Jones was there and files this audio postcard:

That's Ed Firmage, professor emeritus of the University of Utah S-J Quinney College of Law, one of the many voices heard during last night's "Walk for Liberty" rally and march at Liberty Park. By the way, the hat he was referring to was a White House ball cap, which he readily traded for a sombrero.

Crowd estimates at last night's rally ranged from several thousand to as many as 10,000 in attendance - the majority of which were there in support of the Latino community. To give you a better picture: our reporter says there were enough people in attendance so that those in the front of the march eventually lapped those bringing up the rear as the crowd circled Liberty Park.
