Sen. Buttars Apologizes for Remark
None by Jeff Robinson
(KCPW News) A white state senator apologized on the Senate floor yesterday after making an offensive comment about black babies earlier in the day. Senator Chris Buttars was arguing against a school funding bill when he made the comment. He said, "This baby is black, I'll tell ya. This is a dark, ugly thing."
The debate Buttars was taking part in included references from other senators to King Solomon and a biblical story about splitting babies.
Later, after Senate President John Valentine publicly urged senators to be mindful of what they say, Buttars apologized. He said he didn't mean for his comments to be offensive, but that they could be interpreted that way.
Democratic Senator Ross Romero then thanked Senator Buttars for his apology and also urged senators to watch what they say, adding that the legislature is considering several bills that will affect minorities.
The Senate Blog has video of the remark and the apology, including Senator John Valentine and Senator Ross Romero's responses.

It os rediculous that Mr. Buttars remarks has received the attention it has.It is unneccesary that Senator Buttars makes any apology to anyone. He has none a great job and will continue to give him my support should he continue his political carrer. The NAACP is an ememy to the nation. They have one aim and one aim only and that is to bring down the White Establishment.Marvin Wharton
