(KCPW News) In a work session yesterday, the Salt Lake City Council heard another pitch from the Taubman Company regarding the construction of a sky bridge at the upcoming City Creek Center. City Councilman Eric Jergensen says the company has considered the council's concerns about maintaining the vitality of Main Street and come back with a much better plan."They made a very compelling presentation last evening, one that, frankly, they have amended and improved over the last two years of the discussion on this project, and it's going to be a great project," said Jergensen.
But the city council didn't adopt an ordinance allowing for the skybridge to be built at approximately 50 South Main Street. They've set a public hearing for theirmeeting on Tuesday, April 1 for public comment and potentially a vote.
"Those that want to participate, weigh in, ought to come and participate," said Jergensen.
Taubman has said that City Creek will not work without the skybridge. Former Mayor Rocky Anderson called it "a gerbil cage that will kill downtown." Taubman is partnering on this project with City Creek Reserve, an affiliate of the LDS Church.
