Is McCain's War Record Politically Untouchable?

Jul 03, 2008 by Jeff Robinson

A Conversation with Congressional Quarterly's Bob Benenson

(KCPW News) Retired General Wesley Clark likely blew his chances of being presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama's running mate this week after questioning the relevance of John McCain's war record on national television. Even though Clark didn't directly criticize McCain's military service, his comments drew a rare rebuke from both campaigns.

Every week, we talk with Congressional Quarterly columnist and online editor Bob Benenson about the 2008 election. This week, he told KCPW's Jeff Robinson why it looks hypocritical for McCain's campaign to claim that his war record is untouchable, considering the unfounded rumors that have been spread about Obama by the Republicans. Benenson also discusses how some media outlets are unwittingly used to spread the message of attack groups.
