Presidential Campaigns Go Negative, but Which One More So?

Aug 01, 2008 by Jeff Robinson

A Conversation with Congressional Quarterly's Bob Benenson

(KCPW News) E-mails from presidential candidate John McCain's campaign and the Democratic National Committee have been filling reporters' inboxes across the country, full of statements from various advisers responding to just about everything being said by their opponents. Barack Obama now accuses McCain of spending more time attacking Obama rather than focusing on his own qualifications to be president. And McCain accuses his opponent of skipping a meeting with wounded troops in Germany to go to the gym.

Every week, we talk with Congressional Quarterly columnist and online editor Bob Benenson about the 2008 election. This week, he tells KCPW's Jeff Robinson which campaign is being more negative and whether Obama's trip to Germany will bolster his foreign policy credentials.
