Outdoor Retailer Summer Market Wraps Up Today at Salt Palace

(KCPW News) The Outdoor Retailer Summer Market wraps up at the Salt Palace today in Salt Lake City. The trade show was expected to draw 20,000 people, with vendors pouring in from outside of Utah to look at all the latest gear before it gets sold to the general public. And those vendors spent money -- lots of it."They're spending per attendee, per day, about $350. That's lodging, that's restaurants, that's taxis, that's car rental, that's everything they're spending down here. So, for the four days they're here with close to 20,000 attendees, that's a lot of dollars coming in," said Carla Wiese with the Downtown Alliance.
Wiese also notes that the economic benefits from the convention extend beyond Salt Lake City, as the outdoor enthusiasts it draws venture down to Moab and other recreational areas when it's done.
The Outdoor Retailer Winter Market comes to Salt Lake City on January 22nd, 2009. Stay tuned to KCPW's Public Square Monday morning at 11 and Monday evening at 7, when we'll talk with Frank Hugelmeyer, president of the Outdoor Industry Association, which sponsors the show twice a year.
