Will Democrats Take Revenge on Joe Lieberman?

Aug 21, 2008 by Jeff Robinson

A Conversation with Bob Benenson

(KCPW News) Presidential candidate John McCain will struggle to stay in the spotlight next week as Democrats from around the nation gather for their national convention in Denver, Colorado. But even as the cameras roll in Denver, the candidate might be able to push himself back into the spotlight by announcing who will be his vice presidential nominee. Meanwhile, Democrats continue to wonder why Senator Joe Lieberman hasn't been booted from his party as the Republicans announce that he'll be speaking at their convention on behalf of John McCain.

Every week, we talk with Congressional Quarterly columnist and online editor Bob Benenson about the 2008 election. This week, he tells KCPW's Jeff Robinson why Democrats have yet to kick Lieberman out of their caucus, and what McCain's best strategy is when it comes to the timing of his VP announcement.

Starting Monday night at 6 p.m., KCPW will bring you several hours of live convention coverage from NPR.
