Surprised But Excited About Gov. Palin's Conservative Values
(KCPW News) Utah Republican Party Chairman Stan Lockhart says John McCain's newly picked vice presidential nominee, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, has the potential to do great things for the party. But Lockhart adds that it would be an understatement to say he was surprised about the decision."Up until the last minute, I really believed that Mitt was the guy, that if McCain had chosen a man, that Mitt Romney would have been chosen," said Lockhart.
Lockhart believes Governor Palin will energize women across the country about the Republican Party.
He added that the party's conservative base will be excited about the values she brings to the ticket.
"She is just a regular, everyday mom who cares about her family, has five kids, is about as much of a soccer mom as you can imagine, and yet she is just solid on the issues," said Lockhart. "She is pro-life, 100 percent pro-life, she believes that marriage should be between a man and a woman."
On a different note, Lockhart, who's already in Minnesota for next week's convention, says he's heard it will probably be delayed if Hurricane Gustav touches down in the Southeast.
