LDS Church Implements Hiring Freeze
Jan 08, 2009 by KCPW
All employees of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints around the world are affected by a new hiring freeze. It will also affect BYU and all Church Education System Institutes, which run seminary classes at college campuses. The freeze will not affect the Humanitarian arm of the church, including Deseret Industries. It also won't affect its subsidiaries, like Bonneville International.
In a statement, the church said it was not hiring new employees because of the economic downturn. It noted that the freeze is temporary, and quote, "consistent with the principles of thrift and fiscal responsibility that the Church has long encouraged its members to practice."
Church officials would not comment on whether tithing or donations had decreased.
