GOED to Launch Association for Industry
(KCPW News) The Governor's Office of Economic Development (GOED) expects Utah businesses engaged in the development of autonomous systems to reap military contracts of as much as $5 billion in the coming decade.
GOED's Marshall Wright, Director of Business Development for Economic Clusters, says the money will come as the U-S military transforms its fleet. Fully one-third of military vehicles are expected to be autonomous, or unmanned, by 2020, and GOED believes Utah companies to be leading edge designers in this sector.
As a result, Wright has been tasked to launch a Utah chapter of the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems to foster collaboration and networking among academic and business interests in the state.
