Population Boom Fuels Record Job Rates In Utah

(KCPW News) "We're dealing with an economy that's operating at full capacity and largely full-employed."

Excellent employment news for Utah, according to Workforce Services Senior Economist Mark Knold. Utah ranks among the top five states in the nation for labor growth. With new jobs at a 4.5 percent increase compared to last May, Utah's rate is four times the national figure. Why?

"Population growth fuels the economy and Utah is growing rapidly," says Knold. "We also don't have huge amoungs of declining industries like textiles or automobiles."

Knold says all industries in Utah are adding jobs, but construction and professional and business services are leading the way. May's job growth rate is the highest Utah has seen since 1997.
