Your story in the time of coronavirus

Active call for responses: KCPW is working on a show about people on the front lines of this crisis. We’re hoping to hear from those working in hospitals and other healthcare facilities as well as essential workers (like grocery store employees), and we’re looking for responses to any or all of the following questions:

  • What does it feel like where you work right now?
  • What do you find most challenging about this moment in time?
  • What’s your routine?
  • What’s something you wish people understood about your work they don’t understand?
  • What gives you hope in the midst of this crisis?

Follow the instructions below to send in your story, or share this link to help us get the word out. Thank you for taking part, and for all you’re doing for our community!

The new coronavirus has changed the entire world.

We’ve all felt the effects of this pandemic, whether it’s being out of work, having to teach kids at home, or feeling the loneliness of social isolation. There are more unknowns than certainties right now. Local news agencies are working tirelessly to keep you updated as we learn more about COVID-19. But, here at KCPW we want to highlight your stories about how coronavirus has impacted you. We want to share your woes and triumphs, your challenges and how you’ve overcome them. We hope that in this time of global isolation, sharing the experiences of other people will remind us we’re not alone.

How significantly has your day-to-day life changed? How are you talking to your kids about the pandemic? Are you finding any silver linings? Are you directly impacted by the virus? Spend one minute, five minutes, or even ten, telling us your story.

You can send an email to comments@kcpw.org and we’ll give you a call back. Or, follow the instructions below to send in a higher audio quality voice recording of your story using a smart phone.

Your community radio station wants to continue to help connect our community. Thank you for sharing your story!

How to use your iPhone or Android to record a high-quality message to send to KCPW

The below steps might seem like a hassle, but it results in better audio for radio – and when you sound better, people listen to what you say. Thank you!

For iPhone
1. Pick up your iPhone and select the Voice Memos function. Depending on the model of your phone, it may be in the “Extras” folder.

2. Once you’ve opened the Voice Memos app, a screen with a red button is going to pop up. Press that button!

3. Now that it’s recording, you’re going to hold the bottom of the phone about a hand’s length from your chin. And then you’re going to tell your story.

4. Once you’re done, hit the button again to stop the recording.

5. You should see the recorded file on the screen in front of you. You can share the file by tapping the three dots on the screen, tapping share, and then emailing the file to comments@kcpw.org.

It can take a few minutes to send, and it goes a lot quicker if your phone is connected to wifi.

For Android
1. Pick up your smartphone and select the Voice Recorder function.

2. Once you’ve selected the app, a screen with a microphone is going to pop up. Go ahead and press record!

3. Now that it’s recording, you’re going to hold the bottom of the phone about a hand’s length from your chin. And then you’re going to tell your story.

4. Once you’re done, hit the STOP button.

5. Once you’ve hit the stop button, you should see the recorded file on the home screen. Press the menu button. The share function will pop up and you can email the file to comments@kcpw.org.

It can take a few minutes to send, and it goes a lot quicker if your phone is connected to wifi.
