Mayors Offer Support for Millcreek Incorporation

Mayors throughout the Salt Lake Valley are lending their support to Millcreek Township residents who want to incorporate this November. West Valley City Mayor Mike Winder, who is president of the Salt Lake Valley Conference of Mayors, says the group passed a resolution last week offering its support.

Crockett Makes Case for Reducing County’s Debt

A debate over Salt Lake County’s debt load has emerged in the opinion pages of The Salt Lake Tribune, with outgoing County Mayor Peter Corroon writing an op-ed accusing Mark Crockett, the Republican candidate hoping to replace him as mayor, of distorting the facts. Crockett responded with his own op-ed over the weekend, saying Corroon is missing the point about reducing county spending.

Corroon Proposes Smaller Parks Bond

After his last parks bond was rejected by Republicans on the county council, Salt Lake County Mayor Corroon is proposing a new bond measure, still hoping to fix up existing parks and develop new ones in fast-growing areas of the valley. Salt Lake County Community Services Director Erin Litvack says the new proposal is a little over one third of the cost of the bond voted down in June.

A group of community leaders from across the state will meet over the next several months to discuss the best methods of caring for the Jordan River. Laura Hanson, Executive Director of the Jordan River Commission, says the new partnership is important because such a large portion of the state has a stake in the future of the Jordan River.
