Katharine Coles finds her muse in science, literature, landscapes, art galleries, even dogs. Her poems – praised for their clarity, inquiry and structure – have earned her dozens of honors, from Utah Poet Laureate to, most recently, a Guggenheim award. On Wednesday, Coles joins us to talk about the power of poetry to inspire and connect.

Dr. Katharine Coles will participate in the Favorite Poem Project, an evening of poetry readings, on Wednesday, April 25 at 7 p.m., City Library Auditorium. The culmination of National Poetry Month, the event is free and open to the public. Sponsored by the City Library, Utah Humanities Council and Writers at Work.
Segment 2:
Performance art meets globalization. That’s one way to describe “Low Lives 4,” a two-day festival of live performance-based artworks from around the world transmitted live on the Web. On Wednesday, curator Jorge Rojas and Michelle Ellsworth, a participating artist who will be performing live at the Utah Museum of Fine Art, will talk about the international art event.

UMFA hosts “Low Lives 4” curator Jorge Rojas on Friday, April 27, 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. and Saturday, April 28, 1 to 4 p.m. as he conducts the event. Michelle Ellsworth will perform two live “performance sculptures” at UMFA on Friday at 9 p.m. and Saturday at 3:30 p.m. More information at www.umfa.utah.edu.
