Segment 1:

From materials to genres to themes, the artist Pilar Pobil doesn’t like boundaries. She sculpts figurines from clay, she uses oils to paint portraits, she revels in watercolors for still life and landscapes. The exuberance and intensity of her work spills out from the canvas onto the frames which she frequently decorates with swirls and sparkles. On Thursday, Pobil joins us to talk about the emotional component of art and why she considers art a way of life.

Segment 2:

David Estes compares painting to alchemy that is “just a few brushstrokes away from turning pigment, light and imagination into art or into madness.” The Salt Lake City native is one of four Invited Artists at this year’s Utah Arts Festival. On Wednesday, we’ll talk with Estes about his inspiration as well as festival director Lisa Sewell about highlights of the festival.
