Segment 1:

Where did your breakfast eggs come from today? If you answer, “from my backyard,” you’re part of a growing number of urban chicken farmers keeping hens in a backyard coop. Raising chickens has been embraced by locavores looking for locally-grown sustainable foods. On Tuesday, we’re talking chickens and some of the special considerations for raising chickens in the city.

Wasatch Community Gardens presents its 5th Annual Chicken Week including the following events:

  • Chickens, Ducks, Turkey, and Fowl Workshop – June 27th, 6-8pm Grateful Tomato Garden 800 S 600 E An in-garden workshop on how to keep and care for all varieties of backyard fowl taught by local “eggsperts.” $10, Registration required, scholarships available.
  • Early Bird Brunch – June 30th, 9-11am Squatters Restaurant and Pub 147 W Broadway Delicious egg brunch at Squatters using all local ingredients. A great place to fuel up before taking the downtown tour! $15, Registration required. Space is limited.
  • 7th Annual Downtown Tour de Coops – June 30th, 10am – 2pm A self guided tour of the coolest backyard chicken coops north of 3300 South. Registration online is required to receive the tour booklet. Tour guides will also be available at Squatter’s the morning of the tour.
