A nurse by training, Laurine Kingston found her true calling when she helped her cousin deliver a baby in her parent’s home. The year was 1952 and Kingston remembers, “It felt like I had done it before. It was a calm peaceful feeling, like a hand fitting into a well-worn glove.” A new biography describes Kingston’s journey as a sought-after midwife, a Mormon fundamentalist and an advocate for abused women. On Thursday, Kingston joins us to talk about tolerance, polygamy and the modern midwife.

Eight years ago, glass artist Dan Cummings decided Utah needed a venue to highlight the state’s sculptors, from traditional to contemporary and well-known to emerging sculptors. The result is the annual Face of Utah Sculpture exhibit. On Thursday, Cummings joins us to trace the evolution of and trends in local sculpture.
